Many Republican individuals, and the party leadership as a whole, have proclaimed themselves as the protectors of "traditional American family values" and the "sanctity of marriage," and have campaigned against affording certain civil rights to homosexuals. It's surprising how many of them clearly like boys.
Haven't Democrats been at the center of gay scandals, too?
